Located in the picturesque city of York, the University of York was established in 1963, since then becoming an important and successful academic centre. Awarded the title of the ‘University of the Year 2010’ by the Times Higher Education Ranking, was also ranked as the best British university ‘under 50’ in the year of its 50th anniversary (2013). Being a member of prestigious ‘Russell Group’, York currently hosts over 30 departments and research centres.

Given the excellence in research, University of York challenged the distinct positions of the Universities of Cambridge and Oxford, for example with the Department of Sociology ranked first in the UK for research quality.
